Forklift is a vehicle that is used to push, pull, lift and carry weights. They are an absolute necessity in the present world. The warehouses depend on forklifts entirely. Moreover, different organisations, from airport to Construction Company, rely on trucks for daily operations.  

Forklift servicing is very much similar to simple car maintenance. In the present era, the forklifts or the trucks are equipped with just the same features and equipment as the car. Although there’s a difference in the level of sophistication, but both require constant maintenance. Just like you maintain your car regularly, you check the water and other possible issues, these activities are required in the case of trucks too. Although the interval is different than that of cars’, they do require regular inspections and maintenance activities. And, just like a delayed task can cause failure in the case of cars, similarly, if an issue is not resolved completely in time, it can grow into a failure leading to disaster.   

Regular inspection  

Other than the regular checkup, when a problem occurs in a forklift, troubleshooting from the beginning can take a lot of time. This can delay the operation of the organisation, resulting in a financial loss. So, to save some time, it is highly recommended that the truck be checked for any fault that was previously postponed and not completely corrected. A complete service can take a lot of time, but if the truck is checked for pertaining problem and there is one, it can not only save a lot of time, but also, it will solve the issue that could be causing trouble all this time. Below is a flowchart of the series of operation that need to be performed in case of a problem.  

  1. Confirm the nature of the problem that is occurring.  
  2. Operate the vehicle to check for the problem in a controlled environment. This can help pin point the exact issue.  
  3. Take a close look to the maintenance history of the vehicle. See if a problem has been postponed in the past. 
  4. If not, study the maintenance manual of the system and look for the problem in common problems mentioned.  
  5. If you can’t resolve the issue by yourself using the maintenance manual, contact the manufacturer’s customer support.  
  6. Do not use the vehicle until the issue has been resolved. Using it can not only damage the vehicle itself, but it can also damage your goods or any person operating it. 

Tips to keep it cool  

Often the most common cause of failure is overheating of the forklift. Since the vehicle is used daily for heavy-duty activities, it is common that they get heated up when used beyond the recommended usage limit. The trucks are usually designed to perform heavy-duty tasks, but like all vehicles, the trucks too have a limit and using them beyond that limit can cause serious heating issues which can lead to several other damages in the engine. If proper care is not taken, it can cause a fortune to repair the damages. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you regularly check for any heating problem along with performing the following tasks to avoid facing any such problem.  

  1. Use the recommended engine coolant instead of plain water.  
  2. Replace the hoes after regular intervals. The interval is usually given by the manufacturer in the manual. 
  3. Keep the cap of the radiator closed and check it regularly to see that there is no leakage as it maintains the required pressure in the system. 
  4. Keep checking the fan belts in regular intervals, as stated in the manual. Not replacing the worn out belts can lead to several other damages.  
  5. Lastly, keep checking the coolant after regular intervals.

How To Easily Repair A Roof On Your Own?

Locate The Leak:

To remove a damaged shingle, raise up the edges of the surrounding ones and remove the nails with a hammer. Once the old one slide out, slide in and align a new shingle with those on either side and fasten with the help of galvanized roofing nails.  

Reseal Chimneys & Dormers: 

If the problem is with dormers and chimneys, and you believe that nothing more than resealing them should be done, go ahead and DIY. All you need to do is to use a caulking gun and roofing cement. With the help of both, you can stop that leak that sometimes occur around dormers and chimneys. Once you apply roofing cement with the help of the gun strategically, the joints of the metal flashing will be resealed. Thus, the leakages or other problems caused around the area won’t occur again. 

Lastly, if you think that the ball needs to be sent to the professional’s court, then you can facilitate the procedure and lessen the bill by removing the old shingles on your own. Once the roof cleared, you and the contractor can easily inspect around for any structural damage. But, always remember that if you can do something on your own, go about doing it yourself. All About Car Batteries

Intro to Car Batteries 

The basic purpose of car batteries is to store electrical energy to provide to a motor vehicle, to feed to the electrical energy to the starter that then starts the car’s engine. This is why you can’t even start the car when the battery’s worn out. So in fact, you only need the battery to start the car. Once the engine’s running, it no longer needs the battery.

The main ingredients of a car battery are lead and acid. Despite the hazardous nature, these are the two chemicals that give the car, the power. Without these, there will be no Car batteries Dubbo or the head lights or any other electrical component in the car. Some of the important systems in a car that utilise electrical energy are, Ignition and Fuel system, transmission controls, audio and climate control, etc.. However, a car’s battery is not designed to supply constant energy to all these electrical devices. Once the engine starts running, the generator takes over and supplies the power to these systems, while the battery remains charged.  

To get an idea of a world without batteries, engines back in 1860s would be a good example since back then, there were no batteries to supply the initial current so hand crank was used to give enough compression to fire off a cylinder. This was an exhausting task which is now replaced by a simple push-start button or an ignition switch.   

The two types of Batteries 

There are two kinds of batteries that are generally available. The rechargeable ones and the ones that you dispose of once they are worn out. Both of these types are easily available in Dubbo, Australia. The batteries that are disposed of are called priming batteries. These batteries are capable of producing electrical current from the base components. The rechargeable batteries, the car batteries, on the other hand, follow a different mechanism. They can be charged, discharged and then charged again. These are called Secondary batteries. These batteries operate on the reversible chemical reaction that enables them to be charged again.  

How Car Batteries store Energy 

The first lead and acid battery was invented back in 1850s. To your surprise, the batteries that your car operates on, works on the very same principles that the first battery operated on. The design and the material may have evolved over the time, but the basic mechanism is still the same.  

So, when a car battery is discharging, the electrolyte changes into a dilute solution of sulphuric acid. The lead plates absorb the sulphuric acid to become lead sulphate. When the electrical current is supplied, this process reverses. The lead sulphate turns back to lead and the solution which was dilute solution of sulphuric acid becomes concentrated solution of sulphuric acid. This reversible process is the foundation of the working mechanism of lead-acid battery.  

To explain in simpler words, the lead plates that are immersed in the mixture of sulphuric acid and distilled water, take away the sulphuric acid from the mixture when battery is working and when the generator comes into action, the sulphuric acid goes back into the solution.  

Is the Lead-acid battery the most reliable? 

The lead-acid car battery isn’t the most reliable and efficient way to produce energy but, there are 2 main reasons for why this method has been in use since centuries. 

  1. It’s more affordable than any other source of saving electrical energy. Lead-acid batteries are manufactured at a significantly lower cost than other options available to provide energy.  
  2. Secondly, the amount of current that can be drawn from a lead-acid battery is not limited so it can give a tremendous amount of current as per the requirement of the car. This option is not available in the case of other options to create power for the car. 

Selecting the right Battery 

Although the basic mechanism of operation is the same as it was back in 1850s, there have been significant changes the material and design of the batteries, till date. A number of options are available to choose from. In these options, there are different variations for example, a deep cycle battery uses a different plate configuration than a Valve-regulated lead-acid battery. The selection of the right battery for your vehicle depends on a number of different factors including the vehicle’s power demands, the appropriate size of the battery for the vehicle, reserve capacity (RC) and lastly, the Cold Cranking Amps which is the measure of the battery’s ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. For areas like Dubbo, where the temperature drops to around 3°C, this is an important factor to consider.
