love // in Melbourne

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

there is no doubt. Melbourne would have to win the crown in my “best shopping awards“. first prize in locally made, first prize in friendly staff, first prize in vintage clothing, first prize unusual awesome shit, and first prize in finding good hiding spots for your shops. unfortunately the only category you don’t win is availability of public toilets while shopping. with all those amazing streets, there aren’t any big flashy department store toilets where I can go “powder my nose”. but that is ok. I think it is a worthwhile compromise.

art // in Melbourne

Monday, March 29th, 2010

so I am home from Melbourne and I think that is pretty safe to say that I had an AMAZING time. with all the crazy-ness going on with Peppermint mag hitting newsagents across Australia, and then with the release of the new {twin set} range, you would hardly believe I had time to “relax” and enjoy my holiday. holiday and ‘take a break’ and foreign words for me. and when work is play, why would you want to stop!

because it would be a little overwhelming and maybe boring for Melbourne readers if I swamp you with weeks worth of blogging about my week long stay in Melbourne, I think I am just going to sum it up in a few posts. while this is hardly going to be comprehensive, it is a nice way for me to remember where I went!

so apart from the fact that Melbourne is one big massive art ball, here are my top three artistic things I saw.

=================================================

Outre Gallery // particularly the work of Lab Partners. so captivating in ‘real life’.
249-251 Elizabeth St Melbourne VIC 3000

=================================================

Lamington Drive // and Jessica Hische‘s beautiful drop caps.
89 George St Fitzroy VIC 3065

=================================================

No Vacancy Gallery // which was showing the breathtaking work of Eveline Tarunadjaja. I seriously have no words.
34-40 Jane Bell Lane, Melbourne 3000

a very lucky girl I was to see such amazing artwork. so inspiring.

[awesome Tees, made by an awesome guy]

well, I guess I have gone long enough not saying’ anything, that I suppose now is as good as time as any to just mention it. it still feels super weird to say it, and I don’t like being “showy” or “me me me” on my blog, but I guess sometimes you just… well you just can’t help it. a few months ago, the lovely Kelley from Peppermint Magazine asked me if I could be on the cover for the next issue (issue 5). and well, I guess I said yes along the way somewhere, and so here we are, several months later, after some fun time photoshoots with my favourite ladies, with the new issue of Peppermint out, and my face on the cover. yes, sorry. I am being all dramatic but it is a bit weirdo for me!!

bear chain[art, on my wall at home. I always need art around me]

anyway, I am pretty excited about it, because Peppermint is one of my most favourite magazines of all time, and I literally love every single page of every single issue. I have discovered so much about “eco living” by reading it, found nice make-up options, pretty stores, and fun things to do. so I can definitely feel pretty damn happy knowing that I am aligned with something that represents what I am so passionate about!

hello to anyone who may have made their way here as a result of reading the mag! welcome! I hope you like my little blog. you can explore all the important links and things down the left hand side, and you can read back through the archives for all my old posts and randoms things about art, love, food and life. I thought it might just be a nice opportunity to give a snap shot of the things I do. I find it hard to talk about myself and my achievements and what I do, but it is important so I must try. I have been filling out a lot of forms lately find it weird answering the “occupation” question.

I take on commissions and love trying new things, so if there is anything you think I might of help with, don’t hesitate to contact!!

sorry for the massive post! you probably wont be hearing from me now until I get home from Melbourne. I am having a fantastic time, exploring all the nooks and crannies and gathering bits and pieces of inspiration everywhere I go. and thank you to all of your suggestions! they really are serving me well! talk soon. x
